Tecuya Ridge Trail

This is a nice little trail running along the Tecuya Ridge of the Emigido Mountain range just above Frazier Park. The trail goes all the way to the summit of Tecuya Mountain and dead ends a little farther on. Motorcycles can continue on to 9N21.

The trip is about 3.3 miles one-way and extremely rocky in places. Watch out for pumpkin-sized stones in the trail. In most spots the road is no wider than a Jeep track with a steep drop-off to the side. There are about a dozen places where landslides have covered half the trail. These places are passable but they might give your passengers the willies, particularly since you’ll be driving off-camber. I invited Maureen on this drive but she said she had a prayer meeting to attend. “Don’t worry,” I said, “you’ll be doing a lot of praying on this drive.”

I didn’t note the mileage on the odometer, but somewhere around the three mile mark you’ll come to a fork to heading south. It’s a clearly defined trail. A little before this is an older track, now overgrown, and that way made all the difference. This older trail is a scramble and bushwhack all in one but it’s driveable. The real road is much gentler on your paint job.

If you’re into Geocaching you’ll find a cache at the summit. The cache was busted to flinders when I found it, so I filed a maintenance note for the owner.

Heh, I’m the guy that originally placed that cache, back when I lived in Frazier Park. I’m in Pine Mountain Club now.

Coincidentally I found your website after hiking around Ventura yesterday near the ‘Two Trees’ peak, and googling for information about it.

Just did the trail last weekend, the 4th of April 2009. It was definitely a fun trail, and as the article said there were a few points where I was fairly off camber. The beginning of the trail is very slow going due to the amount of rocks. I wish I had done the trail of my motorcycle as opposed to a truck; maybe next time.
