Our church has a tradition on Epiphany Sunday, or this year on the Sunday after Christmas, where they provide a bowl full of cards, each one printed with a single word.
At the end of the service each of us are encouraged to pick a card. We can choose a word that resonates with us. Or, as our pastor says, we can “let the word choose us.”
The idea is to meditate on the word throughout the year and simply see what comes up. There’s no magic to it, it’s just a fun little way to guide one’s contemplations.
The word that chose me this year is “Awakening.”
It feels very appropriate. Last year was kind of an off-year for me. “Awakening” has a nice ring to it.
Let’s see what the New Year brings.
