Yes, You Can Put a Truck Tent in the Bed of a Pickup with a Folding Tonneau Cover

This post is just to help anybody who might be having a tough time trying to figure out if a tent will fit in the bed of their truck when they have a folding tonneau installed.

I did a fair amount of searching in truck forums and couldn’t find a clear answer to the tonneau question. Some owners swore that you could only use a tent with a roll-up cover. Other users were looking for tent that might work with a hard one-piece tonneau.

But I was able to set up a Fofana tent in the back of my Ford F-150 with no problem. The three-piece folded tonneau cover does take about eight inches off the full length of the bed, but that wasn’t a problem.

The only issue is that you lose access to the rear window of the truck with the cover folded this way. That’s not a problem for me, because I haven’t yet had a reason to use the rear window.

I did find one user who installed his tent with the folded cover flipped down (no pictures though), making a shelf inside the tent. I suppose you could do this with a Fofana tent, though the waterproofed floor and sidewalls would be bunchy on the inside of the tent.
